Check in around 8:15 a.m. for a 8:30 a.m. start. Meet at the Route 66 State Park. MoDOT has permanently closed the Old Route 66 Bridge Bridge between the east and west halves of Route 66 State Park. SEE NEW DIRECTIONS BELOW! We are venturing on the acclaimed Route 66 for a fairly flat ride with a few hills out through Eureka and Pacific. Ride about 32 miles with options for additional mileage. Directions: West on I-44 to the Eureka exit (Exit # 264), Left or south on Hwy 109 (Hwy W) cross under I-44 and immediately turn left onto the entrance ramp for eastbound I-44. Once you're on eastbound I-44, take the very next exit for Williams Rd. (exit # 265). Then take an immediate left on the south outer road. Follow the outer road east then turn left and cross under the two Meramec River bridges. Continue until the T intersection with the main park road, turn right and go a short distance (0.2 mi) to the parking lot with restroom. Depart at 9:00 a.m. from the Chesterfield athletic fields for a ride on the Monarch Levee and other roads in West County. Directions: West on I-64 (Hwy 40) to Exit #14 (Spirit of St. Louis Blvd.), up exit ramp to traffic circle, then make a hard right turn onto the North Service Rd. He was always known for helping and encouraging new riders and with wife, Reed, led many fun out-of-town trips to Xenia, OH, Door County, WI, and even a bike and barge tour in Holland. He retired from the Navy (Navy Seal) after 34 years and was a member of the St. Louis Track Club, Trailnet and STLRC.
Visitation is Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Bopp Chapel, 10610 Manchester, Kirkwood, MO from 9:00-10:00 a.m. followed by burial at Jefferson Barracks with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Louis Chapter of America Parkinson Disease Association or a veteran's organization of your choice. Upon return to Sailboat Cove we will attend the free Life Outdoors Festival sponsored by Great Rivers Greenway. The festival begins at 10 am to 5pm and includes free activities such as tree climbing, kayaking lessons, birdwatching and nature crafts. Festival is free but registration is required.
